Hemorrhoid Treatment
Hemorrhoid Banding
Below are frequently asked questions by patients about hemorrhoid removal treatment.
Q: How do I get rid of hemorrhoids? A: Hemorrhoid Banding is a 99% effective, minimally invasive, non-surgical procedure to remove hemorrhoids. The brief and painless procedure is performed in minutes within our New Orleans area office. Best of all, it is a common procedure that many insurance plans cover. Most patients resume normal activities the same day of hemorrhoid banding treatment but are advised to avoid strenuous exercise and abstain from lifting heavy items.
Q: What is hemorrhoid banding and how does the procedure work? A: It is considered the “gold standard” treatment for hemorrhoid removal and relief. The tissue above the internal hemorrhoid has few nerve endings that are sensitive to pain. Dr. Mando puts a tiny disposable rubber band around the tissue using a small suction instrument. The rubber band is designed to stop blood from being supplied to the hemorrhoid. Within a few days time, the hemorrhoid will reduce in size and disappear. Patients barely feel anything when the rubber band and hemorrhoid naturally fall off. Ninety-nine percent of patients report no pain after their procedure.
Q: I have multiple hemorrhoids. Can you remove them all within one visit? A: If there are multiple hemorrhoids, we treat them one at a time, in separate appointments over two week intervals. We will treat the largest and most painful hemorrhoid during your initial treatment.
Q: What are the chances that my hemorrhoids will return? A: Research findings show that less than 5% of patients have a hemorrhoid recurrence after removal.
Q: What is Dr. Mando’s experience with hemorrhoid banding? A: Dr. Mando was the Medical Director of the Center for Colo rectal Health in Louisiana and the first to perform this treatment in Louisiana. He has several years experience in successfully treating patients for hemorrhoids with banding and over 20 years experience of treating hemorrhoids and anal fissures. Each year he treats over 250 patients for hemorrhoid problems.
Q: I’ve been using over-the-counter hemorrhoid cream for the past few months. Will this remedy remove my hemorrhoid? A: No. Hemorrhoid creams only promise temporary pain and itching relief. Using creams over a longer period of time are ineffective at reducing the size of your hemorrhoid or making it go away. Banding is the only proven solution for permanent removal of hemorrhoids.
Q: How do I know if I have a hemorrhoid? A: Signs of hemorrhoids include itching, pain or a lump in your rectal or anus area. Additionally, some hemorrhoid sufferers find blood while wiping after a bowel movement. Common causes of hemorrhoids include old age, frequent constipation, sitting down for long periods of time, obesity, anal sex and low fiber diet.
If hemorrhoids are a source of irritation and discomfort in your day-to-day life, call Dr. Mando at 504-464-8619 to schedule a consultation. A few minutes can make all the difference!
